My Graphic Design Trend Prediction for 2022
Happy belated new year reader! It has only been a month but with all that has been going on in the world, it feels like an eternity! I have spent the past month alone as my husband has been stuck in Queensland due to border closures. It’s been both relaxing and incredibly boring around the home.
So let’s get stuck into it. The main design trend that I predict will take a chokehold on 2022’s print and digital spaces.
The Nostalgia Trend - Think Y2K, the 90s, Frosted tips and bell bottoms. The colours are loud, the gradients are bold, and the jewellery is colourful and beaded. I envision magazine layouts and advertisements will embody the look and feel of ’90s / 2000s shoe brands Steve Madden and Skechers.
Lastly, Candy Colours … And again this I believe that this is all related to the nostalgic trend. As we look back over the past few years (which have been incredibly hard across the world), I believe that the nostalgic resurgence has happened because our future is currently unstable and unknown, and a lot of people can only look back on to what was and when times were happier and easier. Bright fun, Polly-pocket like innocence. This type of design theme brings just a more little joy and vibrancy to the life of all.
Secondly, we have Retro Fonts. These fonts have a strong place in the nostalgic space, but are held up in their own right. I have noticed with a lot of the new Canva templates, there is a heavy presence of these fonts. I imagine that due to the current global WFH/DIY/COST CUTTING environment across many workforces, Canva designs will be in heavy rotation. And I cant say that I am not guilty of participating in this trend of resurging vintage fonts. I am a huge fan of creative market and I have liscenced many fonts for both personal and commercial uses.
